Ministerial Orders – Fisheries Sensitive Watersheds

To qualify as an FSW watersheds must meet two basic criteria; they must have (i) significant fisheries values and (ii) watershed sensitivity. An FSW order established by the Minister sets out management direction to conserve important watershed-level conditions aimed at protecting fisheries values. These include maintaining and protecting the:

  • natural stream bed dynamics;
  • stream channel integrity;
  • quality, quantity and timing of water flow; and
  • the natural, watershed level, hydrological conditions and integrity.
