HBS: Multimedia Interactive Training - Instructions

This page explains the controls provided in the HBS Multimedia Training.  This help file is also available in voice format.  Just open any version of the training and click on the "help" button at the top right of the main menu.

This help file can be printed for reference while using the training.

Training Main Menu:

Selecting a Section:

1.

The training opens to the main menu, where all the available sections are displayed. To view a section of the training, simply click on a section title on the left to reveal the section details on the right.

The Sub-Section Menu:

2.

In the yellow box in the sub-menu are the recommended prerequisite sections that should be viewed before watching the current section.

3.

At the top is the link that allows you to watch the entire section from the beginning.

4.

Below, are the individual links to the individual lessons for the section.

5.

The sections in this training have been broken into smaller lessons to allow individual topics to be viewed separately. The lessons that you watch are indicated by a page icon, and the lessons where you can try HBS functions have a computer icon beside them.

-

If you select to watch the entire section from the beginning, the training will play through all of the individual lessons until the end of the section is reached, at which point, you will be returned to the menu.

-

If you request an individual lesson, at the end of the lesson, you will be asked if you would like to continue to the next lesson, or return to the main menu.

The Lesson Controls:

When watching a lesson, you’ll notice that the lesson mouse pointer is light yellow. This pointer has been colored so that you do not confuse it with your mouse pointer in windows.

The lesson screen is broken into two areas. At the top of the screen, the lesson is displayed, and the bottom, are the lesson controls.

The Sub-Section Menu:

1.

The lesson playback controls at the bottom, include standard play and pause buttons as well as skip buttons that allow you to move back or forward through the lessons of the tutorial.

2.

Beside the standard playback controls is a time slider. You can drag this slider to instantly view different parts of the current lesson.

3.

Just right of the time slider, a volume slider has been provided that allows you to increase or decrease the training volume. It is important to not that this volume is separate from your windows volume. If you have this slider turned all the way up and the lesson is still quiet you probably have your main windows volume turned down.

4.

The feedback bar indicates the lesson's playback state and the name of the current lesson. Wher you mouse over any of the controls a description of their action is displayed for the current lesson.

5.

On the right of the navigation area are options that will take you away from the current lesson.

-

The 'manual' button pauses the training, and opens the HBS User manual in a new browser window.

-

The 'menu' button is used to return to the training main menu.

-

The 'exit' button is used to exit or close the training.

The Interactive (hands-on) Lesson Controls:

In the hands-on lessons, you will be presented with a simulated version of the HBS environment where you will be required to perform the steps outlined by the instructor.  Because the activities are controlled mostly by the choices you make on the screen, the skip forward and skip backward buttons are disabled. Because the time slider is no longer needed, it is replaced by three new buttons.

Using the Hands-on Controls:

1.

The 'Restart' button, allows you to start the hands-on activity over from the beginning.

2.

The 'Repeat Instructions' button, repeats the last instruction you were asked to perform.

3.

The 'Show Me' button, which is used when you don't know what to do, and want the current step indicated for you on the screen.
