Research and Growth & Yield Plot Location DataIAs of January 2010, map notations exist for all research plot locations and active growth and yield plots. The spatial information for all priority Ministry of Forests, Land and Natural Resource Operations Research Installations and Inventory Growth and Yield permanent sample plots in BC is currently available to both government and non-government agencies. The data is stored in the GeoBC Geographic Warehouse (old LRDW) and can be accessed by government and industry staff using ArcGIS, iMapBC, and Forest Mapview.

For iMap users: (mapping sites can be found at http://geobc.gov.bc.ca/)From the GeoBC home page (link above), scroll over the 'VIEW' label (below the search box) and click on 'Make a Map (Secure)' to start the iMap program (do not select the 'Make a Map' option). In the icon bar across the top, click on the green square (7th in from the left) to turn off the colour shading (map of BC will disappear). Select the 'Layers' tab on the top menu bar and then click 'add layers' on the top right side. In the pop up window, click on the 'Base Maps' folder icon to expand the list and check off 'Base Maps Auto Scale (1:7,500,000 - 1:20,000)'. Click on the 'Base Maps' folder icon again to minimize the list. Now click on the ‘Forest Grasslands and Wetlands’ folder and check off 'Forest Research Installations – Government' or 'Forest Research Installations – Industry' if using a corporate BCeID account, to add the layer. You may also choose to add the 'Growth and Yield Active' or 'Growth and Yield All' layers from this same folder. Once you have selected the layer(s), click 'Close window' and then click on 'Refresh Map' on the right side menu to draw the new map. Zoom into your area of interest or use the 'Find Location' feature in the top menu bar to select an area of interest. You can query the underlying attributes by selecting the "i" icon to the left of the layer name and then selecting the identify button ("i" button in the blue circle) on the top icon menu bar and then clicking on the feature of interest.
From the GeoBC home page (link above), click on the 'Services' tab in the top menu bar and then click on 'Forest, Grasslands and Wetlands' to expand the list. Click on 'Forest Mapview' to start the program (a notification window will open as well as the program window - close the notification window). Using the zoom tool from the top icon menu bar (2nd in from the left - it should already be selected), zoom into your area of interest. You can also select the 'Navigation' tab in the top menu bar and then select one of the find or zoom to options on the right. Click on the 'Layers' tab on the top left of the menu bar and then click on the 'Research' folder under the Map Layers heading on the right side of the screen and check off 'Experimental Plot - Govt' (Note: you will not be able to check off this layer if you are zoomed out beyond 1:150,000). Click 'Refresh Map' to see your changes. To add the Inventory Growth and Yield samples, select the 'Land Cover' folder and check off the Growth and Yield All or Active Status' box. You can query the underlying attributes by selecting the "i" icon to the left of the layer name and then selecting the identify button ("i" button in the black circle) on the top icon menu bar and then clicking on the feature of interest.
