Past Versions

PLEASE NOTE that past versions of the provincial biogeoclimatic mapping are obsolete. Each subsequent version of the biogeoclimatic subzone variant (BGC) map of British Columbia is a result of refinements to either the mapping or definitions of the BGC units. The various versions of the BGC map are NOT a result of the BGC units having changed their spatial location over time.

Past versions of the Biogeoclimatic zone/subzone/variant GIS data can be downloaded by adding the (DEPRECATED) Obsolete Biogeoclimatic Subzone/Variant Mapping product to your order using the GeoBC Data Distribution Service.

The downloadable GIS data comes as one compressed directory containing a series of ESRI interchange files (e00) one for each of the past versions available.

The compressed directory will contain the following files:

  • qbecv3_bc.e00.zip - Version 3 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada . Published in Summer 1995
  • qbecv4_bc.e00.zip - Version 4 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in June 2001
  • abecv5_bc.e00.zip - Version 5 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in April 2003
  • abecv6_bc.e00.zip - Version 6 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in January 2006
  • abgcv7_bc.e00.zip - Version 7 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in March 2008
  • abgcv8_bc.e00.zip - Version 8 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in October 2011
  • abgcv9_bc.e00.zip - Version 9 of the biogeoclimatic subzone variants of British Columbia, Canada. Published in May 2014
