Inter-Ministry Invasive Species Working Group

Lake Monitoring

Monitoring for the presence of invasive Zebra and Quagga mussel larvae has been ongoing in BC lakes since 2011, with increased effort over time, as it is critical to confirm their continued absence in BC waters. In 2015, samples were collected from 58 lakes throughout BC (see map below).

Samples were collected by Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources regional staff and several regional invasive species committees: the Boundary Invasive Species Society (BIS), the Central Kootenay Invasive Species Society (CKISS), the Columbia-Shuswap Invasive Species Society (CSISS), the Christina Lake Stewardship Society, the East Kootenay Invasive Species Council (EKISC) and the Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society (OASISS).

For current and past monitoring in the Pacific Northwest see the Columbia River Basin Aquatic Invasive Species (CRBAIS) database.
