A comprehensive silviculture program for young stands should minimize the threat of future infestations of the mountain pine beetle. Thinning to promote vigour and reduce the time-to-harvest will ensure highly susceptible trees will not be as predominant in the future. The current beetle control program is intended to prolong the life of existing mature stands until such time as the young stands are available for harvesting.
