This report examines the relative effectiveness of long rooted interior spruce seedlings (PSB 323) planted in mineral soil capped inverted humus mounds. The long-rooted seedlings were larger and had more new roots than standard sized seedlings at the end of the first full growing season. The prototype planting tool developed to plant long-rooted seedlings was found to be very effective even when mounds with deep mineral soil cappings were dry.
