Forest harvesting practices from the 70's and 80's have resulted in the logging of old growth riparian stands and replacing them with young seral stands that have limited functionality in terms of fish habitat, water quality, channel stability, wildlife, and biodiversity. The original prescription for this project was completed by the Steelhead Society in 2000. This original prescription called for gaps to be created in the existing riparian vegetation. This was accomplished by falling/girdling the overstorey deciduous trees and cutting down the understorey brush. Conifers were planted within these gaps. Red cedar and Grand fir were planted. The red cedar all required protective devices to be installed on them to protect them from deer browse.
