Between 1999 and 2001, on contract to the Fraser Lake Sawmills Division of West Fraser Mills Ltd., we installed a series of 83 operational trials designed to assess the biological- and cost-effectiveness of disc trenching. Each installation consists of paired sample plots, one treated with disc trenching and the other left with no site preparation treatment, each one accommodating 75 planted seedlings per treatment. The trials are distributed across a range of sites in the SBSdk, SBSmc2 and ESSFmc subzones in the Vanderhoof and Lakes Forest Districts. This report documents work completed and summarizes data collected during the 2002 field season. A more detailed statistical analysis and discussion of third-growing-season results is scheduled for 2003/2004, once all the trials have been measured.
