The management goal behind TSL A51100 is the restoration of a dry, interior Douglas-fir/ponderosa pine ecosystem. Research into historic stand structure and disturbance regime carried out in the project area provides direction to manage this ecosystem from its current condition to the "Desired Future Condition"; in this case, ecological structure, composition and processes closer to the Historic Range of Variability. Specific objectives encompassed in the silviculture prescription and the burn plan detail how this ecosystem will be managed from its current state to a condition much closer to the HRV. Future management actions, including frequent understory burns, will be needed in order to complete the restorations.
