The effects of climate on organic matter decomposition in forests of British Columbia

Abstract

I have investigated the effects of climate, litter quality, species mixtures, harvesting and fertilization on rates of decomposition in forests throughout BC. The results indicate that several of our beliefs about rates of decomposition are not valid. I propose to assemble climate data from 40 field sites in BC to determine the best predictor of decomposition in BC forests and make the knowledge that has been generated by my field studies over the last decade widely available to scientists and managers.
