Overstocked Overmature Lodgepole Pine: Assessing the Alternative Treatment Options
|Author(s): Watson, Paul (Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada)||Subject: Forestry, Inventory, Wood Science||Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Forest Science Program|
This study will assess and quantify the technical, economic and environmental implications of harvesting small diameter, mature stems and their utilization as either a feedstock for the pulp and paper industry, or as a fuel source for an energy co-generation plant. In addition, the carbon sequestering potential of the current stands and the potential of the future regenerated growth will be assessed in order to provide baseline data for B.C. forests at the stand level. The fibre quality of stems will be determined for a wide range of biogeoclimatic zones to ensure that the results are applicable to the entire province.
