Stand dynamics of high -elevation coastal forests in Southern British Columbia
|Author(s): Antos, Joseph (University of Victoria)||Subject: Biology, Biometrics, Ecology, Forestry||Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Forest Science Program|
This project will detail the stand history and development of old-growth forests in the MH biogeoclimatic zone on the coast of British Columbia. We will use detailed analysis of tree age structure and growth patterns to determine the role of disturbances and patch dynamics during stand development. Because the tree stems are accurately mapped, we can use spatially explicit analyses to examine within stand patterns. The analyses will follow procedures we have used previously in ESSF zone forests. By March 31, 2003 we will complete a manuscript for an international peer-reviewed journal from a site at Mt. Cain on northern Vancouver Island. This manuscript will contribute to our understanding of the dynamics of MH forests.
