Abstract

This project will investigate the amount, type, and pattern of regeneration under different kinds of logged and natural patches in the Clayoquot Sound area. We will examine the performance and quality of natural and artificial regeneration. These will be compared between patches logged under the variable retention and clearcut systems, as well as with naturally occurring patches in unlogged forest. The results will assist in modeling of growth and yield, as well as in assessing how well new harvesting practices emulate natural processes.
