Abstract

A leading edge CT log scanner will be operational at Forintek, October 2002. Applied knowledge from its use will significantly improve decision making in forestry and fibre utilization. Applied results from CT scanning in Sweden increased value recovery by ten percent, equal to one billion annually if achieved across BC's forest estate. Lab operation requires developing unique software for recognition of internal log attributes, for enabling an internal log attribute sawmill simulation model, and for effective data storage. A broadband, high-speed link is required for collaboration and broad application of results. This project delivers the required software and communication links.
