Non-Alpine Habitat Use and Movements by Mountain Goats in North-Central British Columbia

Abstract

The lack of specific information on mountain goat use of forested areas adjacent to cliff and canyon features has affected the ability to implement effective harvest and access management strategies that for this regionally significant Identified Wildlife Species. The objectives of this project are to monitor landscape level movements, assess habitat use, determine a sightability factor for winter, develop a habitat suitability model and provide management recommendations to resource managers. The results of this project will provide industry and government with practical, cost-effective management strategies to manage critical mountain goat habitats and populations while maintaining a viable forest harvesting industry.
