Abstract

Identifying areas of important conservation value are a key part of a SFM strategy. Little consensus exists on how to best identify these areas, though a range of approaches exist. We propose to evaluate three approaches to identifying areas of significant conservation value currently being applied in the East Kootenay's: ecosystem representation, High Conservation Value forests and enduring features. For the study area, we will prepare mapping and, compare and contrast each approach. In particular, we will identify where the approaches compliment each other and provide recommendations for integrating the approaches and overcoming incompatibilities
