A Guide to the Identification and Interpretation of Biogeoclimatic Ecosystems for the Kamloops Forest Region
|Author(s): Lloyd, Dennis (BC Ministry of Forests)||Subject: Forestry, Silviculture/Forest Management Systems||Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Forest Science Program|
This proposal is focused on the development of a new field guide. It represents products that will flow from 5 years of field sampling and mapping and builds on a previous investment of 1.6 million dollars. The database used to support this product has grown from about 2,300 field samples to more than 13,000. This has enabled us to characterize and distinguish 60 BGC subzone/variants. This sampling intensity has contributed to more accurate descriptions of poorly characterized site series. The classification framework will undergo a rigorous correlation review to ensure the results are compatible with adjacent jurisdictions. We will also complete the remaining 15-20% 1:50,000 mapping for the Kamloops Region. A web-site will be developed to provide clients with early access to our mapping and classification results and permit instantaneous updates to future revisions. A training program will be developed based on a previously successful model.
