Author(s): Duncan, Robert (Canadian Forest Service)
Subject: Biodiversity, Entomology, Forestry
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Forest Science Program

Abstract

To produce photographically illustrated identification tools (handbook and web-based www.pfc.cfs.nrcan.gc.ca/entomology/defoliators/) that will enable end users to accurately identify the larval stage of the more than 140 species of conifer defoliators known to occur in British Columbia. These products will include diagnostic keys illustrated with high quality color photographs. Each species treatment will include the following information: scientific and common name; host range and geographic distribution; larval description including key diagnostic characters; bionomic data including life history, feeding habits, abundance, damage; and high resolution color photographs of the larva and it's characteristic feeding damage.
