Abstract

This project will identify areas where past outbreaks of these defoliators have occurred, and use this data to determine where future outbreaks are likely to occur. Pheromone traps should be placed in these stands for monitoring populations. To minimise hard data gathering (such as pheromone trapping or collecting various life stages) for one complete outbreak cycle ( from rise to collapse of population), various correlations will be done to determine if less labour-intensive sampling procedures can be used. These hazard ratings will be incorporated into integrated pest management system for forest stands to minimise the damage caused by these three defoliators.
