Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
FIA Project 8054004

Public Participation Process - Tembec Chetwynd Operations, Dawson Creek TSA

Project lead: Tembec Chetwynd Operations - High Yield Pulp Group
Subject: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
Description:
A semi-formal public participation process was initiated by Tembec following receipt of their Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) audit results in December 2008. This audit identified a gap in the public participation and information sharing requirements that led to the initiation of this new, more comprehensive approach. An initial round of meetings with public and stakeholders held in March 2009 saw the introduction of the process and its purpose as well as the development of a terms of reference (ground rules) to guide information sharing within the framework of Tembec's sustainable forest management efforts.
A second round of meetings was held in November 2009 to continue interaction and discussions with interested members of the public and stakeholder groups. Four meetings were held over two days with varying levels of attendance. The objectives of these meetings included the finalization of the Public Participation Process Ground Rules document, the introduction of Tembec's Sustainable Forest Management Plan structure and an update on Tembec's certification status including the upcoming surveillance audit.
