Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
Description:
A & A Trading Ltd., previously A & A Trading Forest Products Ltd. developed a Sustainable Forest Management Plan (SFMP) that is consistent with the objectives outlined in the American Forest and Paper Associationís Sustainable Forest Initiative (SFI) 2005-2009 Standard. The fourth objective within the SFI Standard (2005-2009) specifically addresses biological diversity by stating:
"To manage the quality and distribution of wildlife habitats and contribute to the conservation of biological diversity by developing and implementing stand- and landscape-level measures that promote habitat diversity and the conservation of forest plants and animals, including aquatic fauna."
Within the scope of sustaining biological diversity under their SFMP, there are two objectives:
Objective 1: To manage the quality and distribution of wildlife habitats.
Objective 2: To conserve biological diversity by developing and implementing stand and landscape measures that promote habitat diversity and the conservation of forest plants and animals.
A & A Trading has adopted both stand-level and landscape-level initiatives to promote the conservation of ecological values within their operational areas. In 2006 a Biodiversity Monitoring Plan was implemented to assess whether the initiatives are being met, whether they are effective and how they can be improved upon or changed.
