|In 2007, Tembec began the process for obtaining Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for Tembecís High Yield Pulp Group in Chetwynd, British Columbia. The purpose of this project is to develop an Effectiveness Monitoring Plan for Biodiversity (EMP-B) for Tembecís forest management activities related to terrestrial and aquatic environments.|
An effectiveness monitoring plan typically addresses three main types of monitoring:
Compliance Monitoring: Is Tembec doing what they are told to do?
Implementation Monitoring: Is Tembec doing what they said they would do?
Effectiveness Monitoring: Does Tembecís management plan achieve its objectives?
A critical component of an effectiveness monitoring plan is to make linkages between monitoring results and forest management activities, following adaptive management principles. To be successful, the results of monitoring must provide realistic and immediate feedback to forest managers, and there must be a clearly defined mechanism to incorporate the results into new forest management practices.
