|Two remnant Yookwa distribution channels were re-opened in 2003 - the ‘900 RB distribution channel’ (900m from the mouth of stream on the right bank), and the ‘600 RB distribution channel (600m from the mouth of stream on the right bank).|
Opening of these remnant channels in 2003 was directed towards re-establishing the multi-channel characteristics of a typical ‘high energy’ system on an alluvial fan.
Flood flows in November 2007 resulted in damage to the rock-armoured inlet of the ‘900 channel’ and the formation of a large LWD jam in the main (center) channel resulting in almost all flows being diverted down this channel.
The inlet of the ‘600 channel’ was reconstructed in 2005. However, the inlet was raised during that work and the 600 channel had not performed as intended since that time. A high, eroding (left) bank at 0+1000m was prescribed for bank protection works in 2005 but these works were not completed at that time; bank protection work took place during August, 2008 in this project.
