Springer Creek Forest Products SAR Project [2007/2008 project description only]

Project lead: Springer Creek Forest Products Ltd.
Subject: Forest Investment Account (FIA), British Columbia
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
Description:
The Conservation Data Centre (CDC), British Columbia's government authority on species-at-risk (SAR), identified 28 indigenous species considered critically imperiled or imperiled (Redlisted) and 60 indigenous species considered to be of special concern (Blue-listed) as potentially occurring in the Springer Creek Forest Products operating areas. Springer Creek Forest Products operating areas are located within the Southern Interior Ecoprovince, Central Columbia Mountains Ecosection in the central eastern portion of the Arrow Forest District. These operating areas are in Tree Farm License (TFL) #3 and the northern portion of Arrow Timber Supply Area (TSA). Biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification (BEC) units representative of these operating areas are illustrated in Figure 1, with forest operations taking place in the ICHdw, ICHmw2, ICHwk1, ESSFwc1 and ESSFwc4 units (Charlene Bjerg Strelaeff and Ed Hadikin, pers. comm.). Table 1 provides a list of the red and blue-listed species identified by the CDC as potentially occurring in the Springer Creek Forest Products operating areas, current to December 2007. The list includes 18 vertebrate, 9 invertebrate and 61 vascular plant species. Nine of the vertebrate species have been identified provincially in the Identified Wildlife Management Strategy (IWMS) process. The federal species-at-risk list of rare and endangered species includes 11 of the same species identified by CDC.
