FIA Project 6666001

    Small Stream Study - EBM

Project lead: International Forest Products Ltd.
Subject: Forest Investment Account (FIA), British Columbia
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program
Description:
This is a extension of the project (6503004) described below, which was carried out in 2006.
Activities would involve a chronosequence study of allochthonous input into small streams over a one-year period compared to an old growth control area using litter collection traps. The litter traps are placed in predetermined segments of stream and are left in place for one year at which time the litter is collected for analysis.
Research activities would involve a chronosequence study of allochthonous input into small streams over a one-year period compared to an old growth control area using litter collection traps.
Sample sites would be grouped into 10 litter collection traps per site. All sites will be located in the Kennedy Flats area, as well as within the Coastal Western Hemlock Biogeoclimatic zone and Vh1 variant. All plots will be located on S4 (Forest Practices Code criteria) streams. Some site inspection will be needed prior to establishment of the collection sites, to ensure consistent compatibility.

Sites will include:
Control sites (undeveloped old growth sites)
20 - 35 year old second growth
36 50 year old second growth
51 65 year old second growth
> 65 year old second growth

Updated Information: Research activities would involve a chronosequence study of allochthonous input into small streams over a one-year period compared to an old growth control area using litter collection traps.
