Subject: Forest Investment Account (FIA), British Columbia
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program - Innovative
This project will quantify the specific habitat requirements for Canada Warbler in the Fort Nelson TSA. Specifically the project will:
1. develop methods to sample Canad Warler habitat,
2. identify and select sampling locations based on 2006 and 2007 songbird surveys conducted in the Fort Nelson TSA,
3. conduct habitat sampling and
4. summarize results of habitat sampling in brief report.

Canada warbler is a range restricted species in BC. According to Cooper et al, 1997, it nests entirely within the Boreal plains and taiga Plans ecoprovinces, with most records of use from the Peace River and near Fort Nelson. Most studies of Canada Warbler breeding habitat have been conducted in eastern North America. Habitat studies from Alberta and anecdotal evidence from other inventories in BC indicate that western Canada Warblers may have different habitat requirements than thier eastern counterparts. Detailed habitat studies of this species are non -existent in BC.

The project will follow VRI ground sampling procedures to collect habitat data that describes the habitat used by Canada Warbler. Selection of plots to be sampled will be based on results of 2006 and 2007 songbird monitoring.
