Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Forest Science Program
This project evaluates various management regimes for red alder plantations in coastal BC. In experiment #1, effects of spacing, thinning, and pruning on growth and wood quality are assessed. This experiment is part of a larger project initiated by the Hardwood Silviculture Cooperative with trial locations in BC, Washington and Oregon. In experiment #2, effects of phosphorus (P) supply on long-term growth, site fertility and water use efficiency is assessed. This experiment details the physiological response of alder to fertilization. In experiment #3, operational P fertilization trials are being monitored on different site series to broaden the application of research. The project conforms to the FIA-FSP Timber Growth and Value Program by pursuing basic research on tree growth and stand development. These themes are recommended research topics for 2005/06.
