Subject: Forest Investment Account (FIA), Dendroctonus Ponderosae
Series: Forest Investment Account (FIA) - Land Base Investment Program - Innovative
The goal of this project is to test Critical Height Sampling (CHS) as a tool to help address inventory needs for Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) impacted areas in BC. The specific objectives are to: 1. Develop statistical tools to compile and analyze CHS data. 2. Provide a summary of the change in the forest inventory as determined by CHS in the Vanderhoof Forest District. 3. Complete a computer simulation test to compare estimates of change over time from CHS with: Estimates from conventional fixed-area plots and Estimates from other analytical methods used for remeasured prism plots. CHS is currently not part of the VRI standard, and as such, the methods proposed in this initiative do not adhere to Provincial VRI standards. The intent is that following completion of this program, the CHS will be considered to become part of the VRI standard. As such, this project is entirely innovative from the concept through to the complete suite of methods offered in this proposal.
