The use of grasses in reclamation has been recommended since the 1970ís for the North- West Territories (Berger 1977). Similar recommendations have been made for Yukon Territory (Kennedy 1993, Hill et al 1996) and in Alberta (Native Plant Working Group 2000). In British Columbia, the Clayoquot Sound Scientific Panel (Clayoquot 1995) recommended that native grass species be used in forestry revegetation on the west coast of British Columbia, and this was reiterated in 2004 (Coast Information Team 2004). In the last ten years an applied research study has demonstrated that native grass seeds can be successfully utilized in west coast reclamation (Vaartnou 2006). Commercial seed production may start as early as March, 2007, marking the end of this ten year development project.
