In 2006, the Stream Crossing Quality Index (SCQI) survey focused on two different types of streams crossings: a) winter roads where the only access was by helicopter and b) allweather roads where the access was by ATV. The objectives of the sampling program for each of these two crossing types are stated below: 1. The objective of sampling the winter roads was to determine if these types of crossings, as a group, pose any significant risk to water quality. There is typically very little soil disturbance associated with the building and use of these types of crossings and consequently the sediment source hazard is most often perceived as non-existent. One of the objectives of sampling these sites was to determine if indeed the sediment source hazard was insignificant and if they could be eliminated as a potential water quality risk. 2. The objective of sampling additional crossings on all-weather roads was simply to increase the database for this type of crossing.
