|In 2006 we established 21 BBS roadside point count station transects in the Fort Nelson Forest District, and gathered a preliminary year of point count data for songbird and woodpecker species. Based on VRI data, we classified the entire Fort Nelson Forest District into 13 habitat classes, and used them in an analysis of species guild habitat associations. In addition, a framework of data analysis was developed that will be used to present and compare future years of data. Finally, recommendations for improvements to study methods and design and effectiveness monitoring are offered. The introduction provides the background surrounding the initiation of this project, and its role in Canfor Ltd.’s Sustainable Forest Management Plan framework. The physical study area this project was undertaken in is then described, followed by the methods used in songbird and woodpecker surveying, habitat classification, and species – and species guild – habitat associations. Results, including abundance, richness and habitat associations of species and guilds are then presented. These results are then compared to the results in other studies, interpretations offered for results that differ from the literature, and the limitations of the data discussed. Finally, recommendations pertaining to study design, methods, and future work are offered.|
