Marbled Murrelets nest in trees in old forests along the coast of B.C. They are considered at risk, the main threats being loss of nesting habitat as well as impacts associated with oil spills and gill nets. CanFor has a number of areas within TFL 37 that potentially meet the requirements for WHA designation. To more thoroughly evaluate the potential for Marbled Murrelet WHAs, CanFor hired Osiris Wildlife Consulting to conduct dawn audio-visual surveys in TFL 37 located on northern Vancouver Island. The objective of the survey was to sample specific study sites for Marbled Murrelet activity using standard RISC (2001) survey protocols to determine presence, probable absence or breeding occupancy. 56 surveys were conducted. There were 624 detections of Marbled Murrelets.
