Babine Forest Products has been monitoring post-harvest coarse woody debris and standing trees as an indicator of stand-level biodiversity since 1998. BFP's Sustainable Forest Management Plan states objectives of averaging at least 50m3 per hectare of coarse woody debris and 20 standing stems per hectare post-harvest. In 2002, 17 cutblocks were sampled at an intensity of 1 plot per 10 hectares and following methods in Describing Terrestrial Ecosystems. Average volume of coarse woody debris was 158.53m3, of which 85.77m3 was over 20cm dbh. An average of 20.73 standing stems per hectare were also retained on these blocks. BFP's plot data for coarse woody debris is also incorporated into a Morice-Lakes CWD database used in larger research trials.
