Description:
Road deactivation on road H50 was carried out to reduce the likelihood of landslides and sedimentation to a low level. Resources at risk consisted of Hoeya Creek (fish bearing) and site productivity below the road. Other non-traditional resources in the vicinity include the landscape view point from Knight Inlet, known for eco-tourism. Hoeya Creek is not a community watershed. A level I, overview assessment of Hoeya Sound and Lull Creek was conducted by GeoFor Consulting Inc. in January 2000. The overview assessment identified approximately 16km of high priority road deactivation of which road H250 is included. In November 2001, GeoWise Engineering Ltd. completed level II deactivation prescriptions, summarised in Table 1. Table 1: Project prescription summary. Total length of roads deactivated 1212 m Heavy roadfill pullback 216 m Medium roadfill pullback 235 m Light roadfill pullback 50 m Crossditches 20 Stream Crossings 6 Following deactivation, the site was re-vegetated with the following grass seed mix and 18-18-18 fertilizer: grass seed name % seed weight Tall Fescue 28.5 Creeping Red Fescue 20 Perennial Ryegrass 15 Creeping Foxtail 5 Kentucky Bluegrass 4 Red Top 1.5 Single Cut Red Clover 20 White Clover 6
