Watershed level objectives of this project were to reduce the risk of sediment delivery to fish habitat by accelerating the re-vegetation of landslide tracks. Component level objectives were, therefore, intended to establish a temporary vegetative cover that would mitigate erosion and sediment delivery while encouraging the succession of woody species. These objectives were best accomplished at a site level by seeding with a grass-legume seed mixture and planting with seedlings. The watersheds in which the treated landslide occur support many species of salmonids and trout species including sockeye, coho, pink, chum, steelhead, cutthroat trout and Dolly Varden. They were identified as a Priority Key watersheds in the 2001 Enhancing Environmental Values resource management plan. A number of relatively recent, logging-related landslides within the project area that are eligible for FIA funding were assessed, prescribed and prioritized for treatment by Golder Associates Ltd. in February, 2003. Prescribed Work: Prescribed landslide treatment consisted of re-vegetation on specified landslide segments. Recommended re-vegetation consisted of seeding with a grass-legume seed mix and planting of seedlings.
