Stream channel monitoring program for the Trout Creek Watershed: 2002 report - year 4 Penticton Forest District

The intent of the channel monitoring program is to help quantify channel change over time and to determine the potential effects future forest development might have on stream channels. The monitoring program is designed to help guide future management decisions within the watershed and the results of this program are intended to compliment other watershed research and restoration efforts including the Watershed Assessment Procedure, Channel Assessment Procedure, and Watershed Restoration Program. Forest Renewal British Columbia (FRBC) funded this project from 1999-2001, however, the funding for 2002 was provided by the Forest Investment Account (FIA). Seven permanent channel monitoring sites were established in the Trout Creek watershed in 1999. Three sites are on Trout Creek, one site on Kathleen Creek, one site on Bull Creek and two sites on Isintok Creek. The two sites on Isintok Creek and one of the sites on Trout Creek are photo sites only. In October and November of 2002 the seven channel monitoring sites were re-assessed for the fourth consecutive year. The channel monitoring data collected to date can serve as baseline information that future channel conditions can be compared against. Future channel monitoring surveys should be conducted if there are significant changes in watershed conditions.
