Firewood Cutting in the Coast Mountains Resource District

By authority of the Forest Act, members of the public are permitted to cut firewood on Vacant Crown Land for personal use under a Free Use Permit issued by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. In the Coast Mountains Resource District, firewood cutting is restricted to the designated areas shown below.

Applicants must read and understand the permit conditions prior to signing it. This permit is subject to the Forest and Range Practices Act and its accompanying regulations. The Permittee must print the permit and associated map, fill out and sign the permit, carry the permit with them at all times, and must produce the permit at the request of a Forest Officer/Official, Conservation Officer or Peace Officer. The penalties for failing to produce a permit or for not adhering to the permit include a $173.00 fine and/or seizure of the wood. Removing wood from an active logging area or log handling site is illegal and may result in charges of theft under the criminal code of Canada.

Dry conditions can occur throughout the spring, summer and fall in the forest and care should be taken to to prevent a wildfire from occurring.
