Firewood Cutting in the Coast Mountains Resource District
By authority of the Forest Act, members of the public are permitted to
cut firewood on Vacant Crown Land for personal use under a Free Use Permit
issued by the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations. In the
Coast Mountains Resource District, firewood cutting is restricted to the
designated areas shown below.
Applicants must read and understand the permit conditions prior to signing
it. This permit is subject to the
Forest and Range
Practices Act and its accompanying regulations. The Permittee must print the
permit and associated map, fill out and sign the permit, carry the permit with
them at all times, and must produce the permit at the request of a Forest
Officer/Official, Conservation Officer or Peace Officer. The penalties for
failing to produce a permit or for not adhering to the permit include a $173.00
fine and/or seizure of the wood. Removing wood from an active logging area or
log handling site is illegal and may result in charges of theft under the
criminal code of Canada.
Dry conditions can occur throughout the spring, summer and fall in the
forest and care should be taken to to prevent a wildfire from occurring.
