Invasive Plant Program

Pursuit of New Biocontrol Agents

To obtain new biocontrol agents for the province, a number of steps are required. This is described in part by the Biocontrol Cycle but for more detail select the topics below:

  • Invasive plants in BC are prioritized for Early Detection Rapid Response (EDRR), inventory, treatment regimes (including prevention, cultural, manual / mechanical, chemical and biological control) and the requirement for new biocontrol agents. A discussion on the aggressiveness of invasive plants and this prioritization process is described in Priorities for New Biocontrol Agents;
  • Once plant species are chosen in order to pursue new biocontrol agents, the Screening Process begins;
  • The invasive plant species prioritized for BC and the potential biocontrol agents under investigation to control them are described in Agents Undergoing Screening .
