Description:
The objectives of this project were to:
1. Collect detailed allometry data for seedlings and saplings of the major tree species in two sub-boreal spruce subzones (SBSdk and SBSmc2). Combine this dataset with existing data. Develop and test allometry equations for seedlings and saplings that incorporate overstory light level.
2. Collect growth data for very small seedlings of the major tree species in two Sub-Boreal Spruce subzones (SBSdk and SBSmc2) and combine this dataset with existing data for larger trees. Examine alternate models in which growth of understory seedlings and saplings is a function of (i) tree species, (ii) tree size and (iii) growing season ambient light availability.
3. Incorporate the new juvenile equations into SORTIE-ND and test juvenile tree predictions against known juvenile growth datasets.
