Description:
The objective of this project is to incorporate the effects of windthrow after variable retention harvesting into the Table Interpolation Program for Stand Yield (TIPSY), and the Tree and Stand Simulator (TASS). This project is the first in the Pacific Northwest that will combine the variable retention spatially explicit capabilities of TASS/TIPSY with empirical windthrow probability models from B.C., as well as with the mechanistic windthrow risk model ForestGALES from the United Kingdom Forestry Commission. The results of this project will improve our ability to predict the regenerated yield impacts of windthrow after variable retention harvesting for use in managed stand yield tables applied to cutblocks, polygons or timber supply analysis units.
