Description:
The need for relevant, timely and science-based information continues to be identified as a priority by policy, resource management and operations practitioners as well as people engaged in land use decisions. Through this project, FORREX delivered comprehensive extension programming in forest resource dynamics, conservation biology, ecosystem management, aboriginal forestry, socio-economics, watershed management and information management. Science and expert information was managed and exchanged through www.forrex.org , through the Natural Resources Information Network http://nrin.forrex.org as well the production of 4 issues of the newsletter LINK, 3 issues of the BC Journal of Ecosystems and Management, and 3 issues of the technical watershed management bulletin STREAMLINE. Seven technical reports were also produced in the FORREX series of publications. As a result of these efforts clients say they are using research results and expert information to improve their decisions in policies, plans as well as forest practices. They also say FORREX has increased the reach and improved the usefulness of research results. In the long term these science-based decisions will result in improved management of British Columbia’s natural resources, leading to sustainable ecosystems, economies and communities.
