Description:
In 2003, songbirds and woodpeckers were chosen as indicator groups for long term monitoring of TFL 37. A landscape level monitoring program was set up with 18 road-based transect each containing 10 survey points. Point count surveys were conducted three times at each point during May-June 2003. Sixty bird species were detected, 46 of which were considered to include breeding birds on territory. Surveys detected 5,906 birds across the study area during the 540 unlimited radius point counts that were completed. Only 1,888 detections occurred within a 75 m radius point; the remainder were detected within an unlimited radius. The six most abundant breeding bird species were Winter Wren, Varied Thrush, Swainson's Thrush, Townsend's Warbler, Hermit Thrush, and Golden-crowned Kinglet.
