6.4 Final Disposition

General

Final disposition specifies what is to be done with a record once it becomes inactive (i.e., its active and semi-active phases have lapsed).

Final Disposition Designations

In ARCS and ORCS, final disposition instructions are linked to classification numbers. (Refer to 6.3, appendix A for example.) The following disposition designations are used:

Destruction (DE) -- indicates that records are valueless and are to be physically destroyed in accordance with approved destruction methods.

Selective Retention (SR) -- indicates that some records covered by a secondary have archival value and will be selectively retained by BCARS by means of a percentage, statistical or random sample, or other recognized archival selection criteria.

Full Retention (FR) -- indicates that all records covered by a secondary have archival value and will be fully retained by BCARS.
