5.1 Overview
General
Records control standards and procedures ensure that government records
are managed with due regard for security, integrity, economy, and
efficiency. They provide the administrative tools to:
- identify what records an office has (file lists)
- facilitate access to records (finding aids)
- assess the value of existing records (file culling/purging)
- track records that are removed from the filing system (location control)
- ensure the security of records (access authorization)
