Rules

The Department of Communications (Canada) has four main rules that must be observed:

  • You may not deliberately interfere with another station.
  • You may not transmit superfluous signals. Unless the transmission is concerned with official business, it is superfluous.
  • You may not transmit a message (conversation) containing profane or obscene words or language.
  • You may not divulge or use information you overhear other than from a public broadcast.

In addition, the Ministry of Forests prohibits the discussion of official policy or personal matters over the radio.

General Instructions

Before using a radio on a Ministry of Forests' radio system, you should know and adhere to the following:

  • The call sign or station name by which your station will be identified; also the call signs or names of stations with which you need to communicate.
  • The operating schedule, if any, that you must keep.
  • The frequency or frequencies you must use to contact other stations.

Information on these items may be obtained from the Ministry of Forests' Regional Superintendent, Electronics (SOE), located at the Regional Headquarters in Vancouver, Smithers, Prince George, Kamloops, Nelson, and Williams Lake. The SOE can also provide information on system coverage and general operating instructions.

Operators must ensure that their radio equipment is operating properly.

Any improper use of the Ministry of Forests' radio systems may result in the cancellation of the 'Letter of Authority.'
