Scope

This policy covers the classification reviews which determine the relative worth of a position within the organization of the Ministry of Forests.

Policy

The duties and responsibilities of each position in the Ministry will be accurately described in a job description.

Job descriptions are reviewed regularly and updated a minimum of once every two years to ensure that the duties and responsibilities are accurately described.

Revised Job Description

If significant differences exist between an existing job description and an employee's actual duties, a revised job description must be prepared.

Before submitting a new or revised job description, the responsible Excluded Program Manager, in conjunction with a Human Resource Advisor, will assess new and revised duties and responsibilities to ensure that:

  • duties and responsibilities do not overlap with the functions of other positions
  • duties and responsibilities are consistent with the position's functional and organizational requirements
  • duties and responsibilities reflected in the job description have been delegated
  • duties and responsibilities are not tailored to accommodate incumbents' qualifications

An organizational chart, signed and dated by the responsible Program Manager, must accompany each job description. The organizational chart should show a minimum of two levels above the position and all positions within the work unit.

Disputed Outcome

If an employee disputes the outcome of a classification review, the employee may appeal the classification decision. (See Policy 4.4, Position Classification Appeals.)
