Ministry Evaluation Committees

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • To evaluate positions against the applicable classification/evaluation plan or classification specification.
  • To compare positions being rated against benchmarks in the appropriate classification/evaluation plan or classification specification.
  • To compare rated positions against other similar positions within and outside the Ministry, when required.
  • To write rationales supporting classification decisions arrived at by the committee for review and acceptance by the Ministry Job Evaluation Official, and after acceptance, to send these rationales to the responsible Line Manager for action.
  • To develop written classifications for non-delegated positions to be confirmed by either the Public Service Employee Relations Commission or the inter-ministry Job Evaluation Advisory Committee.
  • To recommend changes in the language of the classification/evaluation plans or classification specifications, to the Manager Organization, Classification and Compensation.
  • To exclude from evaluation those positions that do not meet the inclusion criteria of a classification/evaluation plan or classification specification.
  • To undertake on-site reviews to determine if all relevant material has been stated in the job description.
  • To call resource persons as required to assist in the job evaluation process.
  • To ensure that the integrity, application and administration of the classification plans are consistently and equitably maintained.
  • To file minority classification reports should a classification committee member deem it necessary.
  • To assist in the preparation of the Ministry's response to a formal classification appeal.
  • To request managers to submit job descriptions for classification review.
  • To assist in the development of new or revised classification standards.
