Ministry of Forests Policy Manual - Amendment Downloads

Download Instructions for Ministry Policy Manual Hardcopy Amendments and Manuals

You can download the following items from this page (click on the format you want to download; detailed download/use instructions are provided for each format):

Each downloadable file is a Windows-based, self-extracting zip file (WinZip) comprised of a single Adobe Acrobat (PDF) document.  Each is set up for printing two-sided copies (duplex printers) or one-sided originals that can be copied two-sided. Blank pages and page orientation are intact to match the existing hardcopy manual. In some cases, the appearance of the documents on your screen and the final printed copy may vary from the original format depending on the program and the printer driver you are using. The documents were set up using an "HP LaserJet 4P" printer driver.

Policy Manual Amendments

These are Adobe Acrobat documents that can be downloaded for printing and insertion into existing paper manuals. The ministry does not provide manual components (e.g., binders and tabs).

1. Download the zip. When you select (i.e., click on) an amendment, a dialogue box will appear on your screen asking where you want to download the files on your PC.

2. Unzip it. Once the amendment is downloaded, execute it (double click on it from File Manager or Windows Explorer). The program will prompt you for a directory where the file will be unzipped.  Note, if you downloaded more than one amendment package to the same directory, unzip the oldest (the lowest numbers) first so that the latest chapters will overwrite the older ones.

3. Print the document. You can open the amendment file and print it, or you can print from the "Open" command in Acrobat Reader (under the "File" menu selection), or by selecting the appropriate directory in Windows Explorer. To do this, navigate to the file you want to print, right-click on it, and select "Print" from the drop-down menu.  You can print multiple files as follows::

  • select the files you want to print (hold down "Ctrl" key while left-clicking on each file with the mouse)
  • print them (right-click mouse on on selected file series, then select "print")

4. Place amendment print-outs in binder. Follow the "Amendment Instruction Page" (included in each amendment package) to replace existing pages, insert new pages, or remove pages. Make sure that the page orientations of the pages you have printed conform to those in the existing manual.

Entire Policy Manual

This is comprised of 2 Adobe Acrobat documents (Resource Management and Management Services volumes) that can be printed out and used as a paper document, or retained on your hardrive as an electronic "offline" document.  These consolidations will be updated each time a new amendment is released.

1. Download the zip. When you select (i.e., click on) a volume, a dialogue box will appear on your screen asking where you want to download the file on your PC.

2. Unzip it. Once the volume is downloaded, execute it (double click on it from File Manager or Windows Explorer). The program will prompt you for a directory where the file will be unzipped.

3. Once the file is downloaded and unzipped, you have two options for using it:

  • Print the document. You can open the file and print it, or you can print from the "Open" command in Acrobat Reader (under the "File" menu selection), or by selecting the appropriate directory in Windows Explorer. To do this, navigate to the file you want to print, right-click on it, and select "Print" from the drop-down menu.
  • Use it as an "offline" electronic document. With this option, you can retain the manual on your hardrive for use as an electronic document.   The pdf file has some hypertext and search capability, e.g., you can open the "Navigation Pane" (from the top menu bar) and click on the chapters/headings you want to view and the selected item will open.  Also, you can navigate through the document by clicking on the tables of contents.

4. Keeping the manual up to date:

Check this page for new amendments and the latest consolidation.  If you have printed out the manual, you can update it with the amendment pages.   If you are using the manual as an electronic document, you will have to download subsequent consolidations to keep it current.
