Scope

This policy covers the use of forage on Crown land by horses and other livestock used for commercial transportation.


Policy

All commercial horse operators using forage on Crown range require a grazing tenure (Range Act, s.5, 6).

Exceptions

The District Manager may exempt a commercial horse operator, either completely or partially, from commensurability and livestock ownership requirements (see Commensurability and Livestock Ownership and Control).

If the District Manager decides that commensurability requirements are appropriate, they will be applied using regional guidelines.

Stallions

Stallions may be permitted on Crown range with the written consent of the District Manager.

Allocation of Vacancy

Vacancies will be allocated to commerical horse operators in accordance with the policy on allocating grazing vacancies (Range Regulation, s.4).
